If you own a Fender Dual Pro. and/or an early Fender triple Stringmaster, I recommend changing the leg sockets to the newer 18 degree type. The guitar will be more stable (especially if it has three legs). And, it will look much better when you are playing from a standing position. |

That's what I did to Rick Alexander's Pewter T–8 Custom. It seems to work very well, and a good bit sturdier!

Would the leg sockets which you speak of fit on a Lyric Magnatone (D-?
The three legs on the Magnatone makes it unstable. I would like to see a little more stability. Sometimes it can rock and roll.
However changing the legs sockets might affect the value, correct?
Just curious.

Where do you get those sockets? That sounds like good advice. And how much wood do you have to remove to install them? |

It's true - the customized pewter Custom is more stable than my blonde 51. Of course the higher the legs are extended, the more crucial the spread factor becomes. I'm a standup guy, and my guitars are about 39 - 40 inches from the floor. You just never know when some clumsy drunk will bump into your vintage Fender. So Rick C. raises a good point.
I don't recall where Big John got the leg sockets and legs for the pewter Custom.
I always turn to Don Burrows wingingit@adelphia.net for my leg and socket needs - he's a perfectionist.

Bobbe, in Nashville, has the wide angle sockets; but you must change the 3/4" threaded plugs in the legs to 1/2" if you have Fender legs.
It's worth the effort. You will be much happier with a more stable and better looking instrument. |
