I have always enjoyed A capella singing and what I have
heard is mostly performed by Bluegrass artists. I thought it
would be interesting to try it on steel guitar and recorded
the undernoted sample.

I just use six strings of the C6th tuning with "E" on top.
I did the three parts on a Gibson Consolette. The song is
" Walking My Lord "

I have the arrangement in tablature for the individual parts
and also MP3's of each part as well. Anyone interested
in trying this approach please email me for details.

Great for recording practice and also for trio or group
playing.

Very nice. One thing though - A Cappella means "in the chapel" in Italian musical parlance. Back in the day, instruments were not allowed in the chapel because only the voices of the monks were deemed worthy of that. So the term "A Cappella" only applies when you're talking about the human voice. If you're talking about solo instrumental music you'd call it "unaccompanied".

I can sure hear it in the chapel, with all its natural reverberation.
I'm sure those chords on pedal steel come from emulating the close, moving harmonies of mountain singing.
Lovely, as always.

Yep, with Michael pointing his sidearm at us, we better be playin' in tune! Looks like he had a rough day at the office!

As Lawrence Welk use to say.. WON NER FUL WON NER FUL.
You did it again Roy. Thought of in the past ... what 4 steels would sound like, playing 4 part harmony. Now I know.

Yup Alan, I hever play WITH accompaniment. I am strictly a back-porch lawn chair picker on Dobro, National tri-cone and
Superslide. I'm probably missing something, but I get to hog the whole show !

Lefty Frizell band used to play this type of harmony
back in the 50's. The song "Always Late " comes to mind
and there were others. Of course they used the band accompanyment.

Thanks Damir. The one with the good view of it's bore is a 10" barreled Ruger "Flattop" .44 mag made in 1960. Not many 10" Flattops were built.....

Just FYI

Dennis

BTW, I guess Bob will have to delete the excess photos. From what I can gather, after a post is "answered", I lose the ability to delete. Kind of odd but...... (A computer whiz I'm NOT!) Cool
