Have you ever received a phone call that "just made your day"? Well I did today.Rocky Caple called me this morning, right out of the blue, just to say hi.He said he was thinking of me and wanted to see how I was doing.I thought he was calling about the SSSGC convention this weekend and he said that he wasn't aware that this is the weekend for the convention. He promised to call me if he can get someone to bring him over from Tulsa for the convention and that he would for sure be at the Tulsa show.
I grew up in the 60's loving Rocky Caple and never dreaming that I would ever have the opportunity to have him for a "FRIEND".My brother and I played Rocky's "Sawed Off Shotgun" on our record player every day when we were growing up.I have an original 45 autographed by Rocky and it's an absolute treasure to me,thanks to Don Compston,Randy Beavers and John Hughey.I can never thank you both enough. One of these days,I'll post a true, funny story about my brother and I with Rocky's Sawed Off Shotgun.
Rocky said that he was doing fine. That made me feel great to hear that. He's had some diabetic issues this past few years. He doesn't play much now.He said he probably couldn't even carry his steel anymore.Don Compston brought Rocky to the SSSGC Convention to see me in 2005.That was the last year Don played for us.I sure miss Don and Doyle Huff and a bunch of others that are gone now.
For all the time and money that I've invested in the SSSGC and in my equipment over the years,I can truthfully say that it has been worth every dollar to me because I've been blest to become friends with many precious folks like Rocky Caple,Fred Justice,Tom Brumley,Terry Bethel,Buck & Mitzi Grantham and many, many others.Far too many to mention here.I love you all.
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
