By cutting it down from a 24" scale to a 12" would most certainly cut cabinet drop in half. _________________ LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN GEORGIA |

I guess you didn't buy an Excel or you would have cut your cabinet drop all together, not just in half...Jim |

I'm quite sure the exact opposite is true:
A shorter scale would increase cabinet drop,
a longer scale decrease.. whatever the cause.
That's been my experience. |

I always liked the sound of ultra-lights on my acoustic guitar, and it's easier to play. So, I ordered individual Daddario strings from AMS online. Using the E9 tuning, took the regular guages and substituted 3 or 4 guages lighter. Would like someone to try and see how they think it sounds.

Pedals only need minor tuning adj. and also tilted the pickup so base-strings are closer to the pickup. |

...I would expect ultra-light strings to sound absoutely awful, and feel awful to play; just like they do on a regular 6-string guitar. The gauges Mickey's suggesting would be like a set of .008's on a Tele, or maybe even thinner. Yeuch! In my experience light strings (on any instrument) have a hard time staying in tune - the lighter, the worse. So I'll pass on testing, living happily with the minimal cabinet drop my ears cannot detect anyway. |
