Tommy Dodd has always been an inspiration to me with his aggressive style and steeler driven selection of tunes to play @ the TSGA Show. I finally purchased a couple of his CD's and they are GREAT.
I've got to share this story with ya !
We had great seats for Tommy Dodd's show. The lady sitting in front of me was reading an A. A . R. P. magazine from front to back. She couldn't put it down!
Then Tommy Dodd appeared. Next thing ya know the head was bobbin',foot was tappin, and AARP was history.
Us baby boomers with boomer-i-tis can still rock on!
Thank you Tommy and Donna for what you do.
Hope to see you next year at the NEW DIGS IN TEXAS.

Tommy Dodd has become one of my favorites over the years. He puts on a very energetic show and did an outstanding job in Dallas this year, even though he said he had not been to bed since leaving Georgia. I especially love his renditions of "Highway 40 Blues" and "Dance With Me".

Tommy Dodd is one of the best players out there. When he is playing, he is having as much fun as we are listening. It is always a pleasure to here him play. His playing on "Dance With Me" is incredible. He and Donna are a class act, and I am glad to have such dear friends. jody.

Tommy and Donna are two of the most wonderful people I've known in my life, and Tommy and I play onstage together at shows, and it's really awesome to play onstage with him. Both Tommy and Donna are wonderful friends of mine

Rodney, you could have been sitting behind my wife. She was reading either AARP or some aviation book. Yes, she does like to listen to Tommy play. It is always nice to see someone who really enjoys being on that stage. I can't understand why Tommy doesn't get to play at St.Louis more that he does.

Tommy plays with more fire and passion than just about anybody I know. A lot of players play with just their brains. Tommy plays from his guts. He has that indefinable quality that touches your soul when he plays.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Donna and Tommy for only a short while but hope that will grow. They are both the most openly friendly and congenial you will ever meet ! I bought home one of the "In The Steel Of The Night" Cd's which has "Dance With Me, Highway 40 and some other selections that you don't hear every day such as "Somewhere Out There" and "Presence of The Lord". Tommy is our steelers connection to the world of sports with that "Arm in the air" emphasis on the last fast note !! "Tiger Woods" of steelers ! Laughing

The birthday boy has been celebrating for a week -- and now THIS!!! I can hear his head swelling. Wink

Bill, the TIGER thing has a nice ring to it. As long as it won't make him bite.
They called him Tom Cat when he was in radio.

All joking aside, I very much love my husband's playing style. He still melts me with just about every song - But the biggie is I'm so Lonesome I could cry. He records a lot of different styles of music - but OUR TRUE LOVE is that good ole raw, twangy traditional country. Nothing like it!!

Thanks so much, Guys!!

Donna-Do Dodd
(If you say it just right, it sounds like a drum pattern.) Very Happy

Well I will second all that has been said about Tommy....great guy....I have to say this as Donna is my adopted Cousin!!!!
Played at a couple of international jams with him.....me on Dobro...last one in Dallas..Tommy said ..got to get you to show me some of those licks.....Yeh Right Tommy!!!!...could prob blow my socks off....but what a nice thing to say to make me comfortable.......also said...look after the store while I play.....looking after his booth......and when I said I needed to go call Smiley...he just gave me his cell phone...said...use this
Also we needed to go on a beer run...too expensive in the hotel...so Donna just said...we'll take Tommys waggon...Billy can drive...took us two or three hours to find beer in Texas....but it was the most fun...going through shopping centers...the car was rocking from the laughter...Too Much Fun !!!!
Tommy and Donna
See you in St Louis this year

Tommy's tearin' it up in the now-extended Atlanta run of "Always Patsy Cline" at the 14th Street Playhouse. Watching Tommy is worth the price of admission.

I've been acquainted with Tommy since I started playing a Zum. He'd hang out with Bruce Z. at the Zum booth at shows. His playing is always excellent. This show I bought an effects unit plus a customized rack from him that has some of his presets, so now I can cop the Tommy sound!

First let me express my thanks for the 'Texas Welcome' and the hospitality shown to all from this side of the pond. Tommy was a knockout and I made sure I was at his session in the 'Peavey' room, I couldn't get enough of his mastery of the steel, brought back some of his discs so the memory lives on.
Thanks Tommy and Donna.

First of all let me thank all of you above for your gracious comments about my playing in Dallas. I was running on pure adrenilin and caffein on my Friday evening set. (No sleep for 37 hours can reek havoc with your nerves...Know what I mean?) Saturday in the Peavey room was better after we (I mean Mike Brown & Marshall) got the technical issues with my rhythm tracks worked out. Those guys from Peavey are always on top!

Anyway, I don't know how to respond to this Tiger Woods comparison. Maybe, we should look out our respective bank accounts and say, "No, he's just another of those crazy steel players having a great time doing what he loves."

My sincere thanks to Albert & Debbie Talley, Louie Hallford, Jody Sanders, Gregg Thacker, and all the wonderful folks who make this convention what it is...GREAT!!! I feel very honored to be asked to play at this event and hope they'll always invite me back.

P.S. - I sure like being a Texan, even if it's only for a few days.
