Oh Hi Gary,
Did you know you're one of my steel guitar heros?
The Vanduras is in heavy rotation on my CD at home.
Actually I'm having a blast. I went to Seal Beach Music and picked up a new bar after work today. It is like what Freddy Roulette might have, white plastic bullet with a metal center. I've got to find out what kind it is. I got a hawaiian nut adapter, too. The nice lady at Seal Beach Music said it was labeled a "nut lifter". We laughed and changed the subject.
I can't believe how fine the weather is, especially as I come from Seattle. I'm glad we swapped weather back to normal just before I came down here.
It's nice to get off work and sit on the balcony and look at the ocean.
This is a great area you've got here. I see the attraction.

Paul, I know that Hilton well -- one sees a lot of familiar faces from Seattle there at any time.
When I've been there in the past I've always checked the calendar for the Coach House in Capistrano Beach. I've seen David Lindley's name on the schedule a couple of times, but (so far) never on a night when I've been able to go.
I'm intrigued by the bar (steel, that is) you found in Seal Beach. Freddie Roulette describes his as coming from an aerospace tool manufacturer in Oakland -- they're lead, covered in Dacron. Have you found the same thing? |

Hi Russ,
It may be similar, but the core is steel, not lead. The plastic covering it is white and extremely hard and slippery. I am going to email to the good folks at Seal Beach Music and try to get some more info. I called, but the owner Mr. Montana was not in.
Could be it is related. I will definitely post the results of my research.
Their site is www.sealbeachmusic.com . Neat place to check out. Lots of steels hanging on the walls.
Thanks for the tip on the club. I will definitely check it out next time. Another tip - the little pho restaurant just north on PCH is Great! |

Here is what Jo D at Seal Beach Music had to say:
"The bullet is one of a kind, made by an old steel guitar player who is
unfortunately no longer around..."
So I don't know much more than that. But I bet it's somehow related to the ones FR had made. It's very impressive.
I can send you a photo if you're that curious.[This message was edited by Paul Arntson on 12 April 2005 at 04:38 PM.] |
