Ladies, Gentlemen, & Resophiles of all ages,

It is my pleasure to announce Jim Heffernan's Dobro Workshop to take place on Sunday, May 1st at one of my store locations in NEW YORK CITY. I am thrilled to host this event. This will be a one day seminar.

As many of you know, Jim is one of the finest musicians and players of this insrument. More importantly, he has a great talent for teaching and imparting his knowledge to others.

I will be posting more information on Jim's seminar as I receive more information from Jim and as we work out some of the final details. There will be some additional "things" that will unfold and will be of interest to all.

More to follow........

Gerald, Gerald, Gerald......it's way too early in this thread. First, you soften them up by plying them with the facts. Then you hit with a roundhouse of jokes. Much more effective.

Comedy 101 as taught by HowardR....

Will do Smiley, but I'll see you first in Dallas.....

More info;

Here's Jim's contact info if there are any questions with regard to his class content, "tuition", etc....

JAMES HEFFERNAN
522 Third Ave
Haddon Heights, NJ 08035
jheff@mcihispeed.net

The class will begin at 10am and continue 'til 5pm with a one hour beer, er lunch break. Jim provides cds & tab books.

My store is within walking distance from Grand Central Station, Penn Station, Port Authority, all subways, and the Panama Canal. I'm in close proximity to The Midtown Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, and Queensboro (59th St.) Bridge.

Some tidbits of interest......

I'll have on hand a few Benoit Resonators for display and "gingerly" demos. I'll also have my Harmos steel with stand for all to check out.

Dan Balde will be in attendance with his Palm Pedal Dobro. It seems like Palm Sunday will fall twice this year. I'm anxious to see and try this.

Now, if there are any steelers who would be interested in taking this class but don't own a dobro, I can spot you one for the class. If you know anyone who would like to take the class but doesn't have one, don't let that be a deterrent. It can be remedied.
Please, only somone who doesn't own....not someone who doesn't want to bring theirs. Proof of non ownership will be required...

Jody, we're not close to 2nd Ave Deli, but we're close to Ben's. Their motto:

"We cure our own brisket, our chicken soup cures everything else"

Actually, I'm relieved -- I was looking at your original post upside down, then backwards, then both, trying to find the joke.

Good on you for helping make this happen, Howard.

I'll try to keep May 1 open. I think I'll have to borrow one of your dobros, Howard.

Hey, Haward, Is this "Advanced" class? or "starter" welcome? I happen to have this 6 string Tricone from '29 I'm not spending too much time on it, I would love to get some music out of that box if I could. Let me know!

This is great news, about the only thing that happens less frequently than a steel show/meeting in New York is a resonator show/meeting. I am looking forward to this very much. Me and my Beard will be there.

Thanks for posting this Howard!

Hello Hiro

I'm going to assume that the class is intermediate level and I'm sure all are welcome as Jim teaches all levels. Your best bet is to contact Jim. He'll give you the exact information. The contact info is listed above.

We have some strong interest from some folks at the Jerry Douglas Forum.

It looks like this is going to be above and beyond a classroom. Maybe a mini convention.

Hey Jon Light.....what say you? Here's your chance to get back at Uncle Izzy. Strap on your dobro and push him out the side door. Some of those Hank tunes would lay well on the old pie plate!

Hey Howard---I'm halfway between a hem and haw---a definite maybe. I'll certainly have to give you a better answer than that eventually and I will. Thanks for the shout-out. btw--we are down to a five-piece and ol' Iz iz on gittar now. Played a KCR radio show last week with Sheriff Uncle Bob who actually gets a real sweet tone--I think it's a Beard? didn't pay attention. Anyway, great job putting this together. Do we get to wear nice hats?

Down to 5? You're runnin' mean & lean. I just wanted to rattle your chains a little bit. If you decide in the affirmative, I have a nice red cloche for you.

Yep, Sheriff Bob does indeed play a 7 string Beard. I seen it at The Baggot Inn. He heads up a bluegrass jam there every Wed evening. He told me that he tunes it G G B D G B D for bluegrass. Not a bad idea. I'd like to have a 12 string in that tuning. If I miss one string, I'm sure to hit it's unison. I would like to hear him play other styles though.

Blind Lemon Lupkin, you ole' bluesmeister! I was waiting for you to show up.

Seems like Broke Down Engine could benefit from some pie plate blues. Just think, no cabinet flop....

Dan Balde will have his palm pedal dobro there.

If you're interested in plying your bluesical skills to dobro, this would be a great time. I've got a training model waitin' for ya'.

Oh yeah....

That's Mike Auldridge screen left, Jim screen right, and the back side....ooops, let's just say the back of Carroll Benoit who is playing rythymn guitar. That was really some session. Eddie Ortego, a fine player also sat in with them.

Dan, I'm really looking forward to the workshop and the Bigsby Palm Pedals
