Hey there everyone,
I've been traveling so much, but finally am home for a while and I'm making some time to work with a Stringmaster that I picked up on eBay almost 2 years ago. (I can't believe it's been sitting around that long!) The short story is, it's a Stringmaster that was misrepresented (imagine that) on eBay. So, I kind of lost heart with it. Anyway, it's time to give it some love. I already know that I need to replace the 3 position switch. Am I remembering right that a Strat switch will be a drop in replacement? Also, on the second neck, the bridge pickup has been removed from the circuit, but is still in place. There is a date written on it (7/19/65). How likely is it that this might be the "born on date". (I've already checked under the tuning pans and there's nothing there). Lastly, if the pickup that has been removed from the circuit turn out to be dead (why else would it be removed), is Jason Lollar still the "go to guy" for healing pickups?

Jason is "DA MAN" in my opinion. He has all the specs.
I used a tele switch in a D8 I had. It's not laid out like the original. You have to pay attention the the circuit drawing that comes with the switch. I bought mine from Antique Electonics, tubesandmore.com. |

Check the pot codes for a date. |

I put a new Tele switch in my D8, too. You have to make sure you have the jumpers wired correctly, or it won't give you all three combinations (I kept finding out the hard way )
Good luck!

I have seen Mid 60's Strat pickups with pencil'd dates on them. It should have a greenish grey bottom. Usually the dates on the pickups are later by 1 to 4 months than the neck date. If the pots are dated 65, IMHO that would point to the Stringmaster being made in '65. |
