I am getting ready to wire my latest lap steel.I am using a custom EQ control and a volume pot.the wiring diagram shows a.02 capacitor which is soldered to body of pot and the right side post. But when I read up on this it did not show it being soldered to pot. What am I missing.should this go to the EQ control? There is from left an out,Grnd,in and then a B+ which goes to Dc batt.I am not sure who is the wiring guru here, but hoping somebody knows about this! |

If the cap is supposed to be grounded, the body of the pot must be grounded also. If the diagram shows the cap going to ground, they are using the pot housing as a ground. Most times the pot (housing) is grounded as part of the shielding scheme. If the pot is in a metal plate on your guitar, the plate, and the bridge should also be grounded, usually to the ground lug on the output jack. Using shielded wire for all this will help with hum problems too.
Hope that helps a little |

Normally, the cap goes from ground to the right side lug on the tone control, when looking from the front. The center lug on the control (pot) goes to the + or what is called the "HOT" side of the pickup wiring. I don't know about what you call an EQ. What is it?? |

Thanks for your help, Bill the EQ is a tone control pot I got from GuitairFetish web site. It has a tiny little board that changes the tone from normal to an increased gain. At least thats what I understand. I will try your suggestion for the cap. Going to try it first without and see if it has any feedback issues. |
