My Celtic Cross Baritone Weissenborn arrived today. First of all the pictures I had and posted previously do not do justice to the beauty of this instrument. It is a stunning looking instrument.
Now the sound: it is like nothing I've ever heard before. If you can imagine the sound of a slide cello, that would be about the closest I can think of. I currently have it tuned in A (D tuning intervals but in A instead of D). Just playing a few tunes, they are like new tunes. The sound almost brings tears to your eyes. I'll try and get a sound clip up here shortly, but it is one hell of an amazing instrument. |

"There'll be no teardrops tonight."
Isnt' that a song? I'll make it the first tune I learn in honor of you Lord Tweed. [This message was edited by Bill McCloskey on 16 March 2005 at 03:51 PM.] |

You should know what I'm going through Bill. BTW, do you want to make a case for me? I'm not as handy as you and I need a custom case soon.
Anybody have any good leads on "reasonably" priced custom cases? I called Carlton, but a bit steep for me. |

Bear Creek Guitars lists Ameritage cases for their Weissenborns, presumably including baritones for a lower price than a Calton. One option I'm considering for when my bariweiss starts looking like something other than a drawing and some cedar planks is scaring up an old Anvil-style road case for a dreadnought or other flattop and having the foam re-done to fit the weissenborn. I've seen suitable road cases for $1-200. I don't know the cost on getting the foam redone, but, hey, I've got a friend with a foam shop so how bad can it be?
Also, congrats on the guitar. Seems like the forum's gone weissenborn crazy lately. [This message was edited by Garth Highsmith on 16 March 2005 at 04:59 PM.] [This message was edited by Garth Highsmith on 06 January 2006 at 10:57 AM.] |

I think you'll find your baritone to be a very deep well of inspiration. I'm not able to build you a case at this time (new roof going on the shop) but I'll send you pictures and how to instructions if ya want. Bill |

I can't wait to hear it. As I wrote earlier, I played one for a while in the store, and I left with my body all buzzing. Try tuning it to a C shape in the key of G!

Well you all will here it soon. I've playing all night and have discovered that the key and tuning fit my voice well and I plan on laying down some tracks maybe this weekend.
As they said in Midsummer's night Dream: this is a dream where there is no bottom. I'm playing things that I've tried to work out on other guitars with no success, and with this, the tunes seem to play themselves. Because of the very low and clear bass you can create a little funky groove that just wouldn't be possible on any other instrument. And playing with my son is a dream because we are not crowding each other's register. an amazing amazing instrument.
The cost of the instrument was sooo reasonable and the sound is so over the top amazing I would highly recommend those with some extra scratch to treat yourself to one of the finest acoustic instruments I've ever laid across my lap. |

I pick up the Rick today from a really friendly vintage guitar store in Hobokan. The specialize in vintage guitars and only vintages guitars ( no lessons, accessories). They told me that the instrument is in excellent condition and the are setting it up for me. Can't wait to get it. Judging by shape the case is in, it looks like it was very well cared for. |
