E is my first string for Hawaiian music. The heaviest string I've ever used for for this position is .016".

This is for a short scale Fender guitar.

Does anyone ever use a heavier string for this position?

Many thanks, Rick

I use an 0.017 for a short scale E.

I'm at .016" for the short scale. Dave Giegerich of the Hula Monsters uses an .018 for the 2nd string E on a long-scale Sierra Laptop. Great player, great sound. -Steve

I use an 0.18 on the high E. I've heard that there is some tradeoffs with using a real heavy gauge string, but I like the sound and the fact it supports the weight of the metal slide. I use the heaviest gauge strings I can find for all 6 strings - although, for the lower strings, I'm not too fastidious about what those gauges are. I usually go through my dusty box of left over guitar strings to see what I can find when I need to change - which isn't too often

Hey guys,
How short is "short"?
I have a Guyatone with a 20.5" scale....is that "short"???
I'd like to put a 016 or 018 E on there...think I can get away with it?

Edited to add:
Taking the previous to the logical end....do you think I could get a .062 up to an A for A6th?
Jay
