Audacity works great for converting to mp3 etc.
I put a shortcut to Audacity in the Send To folder, so it's quick and easy.

You can go here
to download and run Blaze Media Pro for 15 days free. It effortlessly converts almost any media file to almost any other media file with a few clicks. It's so simple to download and use that you will have the whole job done in a few minutes.

I am not sure Audacity supports the .wma format.

There's along workaround that will allow WM Player to do this and it has option switches for encoding to mp3 as well as .wma. If your .mp3 is on a CD, just go to the "RIP" tab in the lastst WM Player and select .mp3 as the encoder, burn, and your all done. Under "RIP" "More Options" you can even set the .mp3 quality/data rate.

The free windows media encoder utility will go from .mp3 to .wma but not the other direction.

ooops, right you are about Audacity not importing .wma files.
Windows Media Player does it tho (I just did one) Tools -> Plug-ins -> Windows Audio Converter.

I just checked my WMP V11 and it has options for WMA or MP3 ripping. If you have an older version that may be the problem.

I just installed Audicity again and tried to import one of my songs, and it wont take it. So I tried to import it with different tag names,.mp3, .wma.wmp. and it asked to try "Import Raw" so I tried that and it shows like it got it, so I clik on "Play" and a get a sound like a shot, and that is it. I have tried other recording programs and with this one, I am getting nowhere.
Anyone got any ideas that are using and recommending Audicity what I am doing wrong? Thanks...al

I downloaded "switch" from cnet (download.com) It works great, very easy to use, and it's freeware.
