A very high minimum bid, and a zero-feedback seller who doesn't know that his $1000 guitar is called a "Deluxe."
I sense danger here ... caveat emptor![This message was edited by Russ Young on 25 February 2005 at 05:05 PM.] |

At that price point the buyer should be seeing double....necks that is.....steel prices on ebay seem to keep increasing...but that's no reason to pay an exorbitant price....ebay is sort of "a blessing and a curse." It brings us all the opportunity to purchase steels we would never find in our hometown....yet, it also drives the prices of steel guitars up and up and up....there are still well priced steels out there....just not this one.....

Well, there was a time about one year ago when every blond 50's Fender Deluxe 8 (they're NOT actually Stringmasters) that went up on Ebay went for about $1200, so $1000 isn't crazy. That's not MY favorite price for a single neck Fender, but that's what some folks will pay. I prefer my trapezoid pickup Deluxe 8 I bought last year on Ebay for $305, but I geuss it's just a matter of preference.

Amen Amen Amen to what Keoki said
It is too high!!!
I have seen these Fender guitars at the Hawaiian Steel Guitar conventions at Joliet, Illinois and Winchester, Indiana going for a lot less.
I think that the Hawaiian Steel Guitar coventions are excellent places to look for formerly owned (used) steel guitars.
I have bought all of my steel guitars at a Hawaiian Steel guitar convention - 60's Fender Stringmaster, D-8 Excel, S-8 Excel Frypan, 34 Rickenbacher Frypan, Oahu acoustic, Shobud Frypan #21, Fender Deluxe, and two homemade lap steels.
So you can see that is quite a variety.
Ebay is another matter and so I cannot give a real informed decision there.
Good luck.
Aloha,
Don

Although it l©©ks like a very nice item and a desireable one, the seller would get the better part of the deal, at the starting-bid, but then again; it's worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay! (as a keeper)

Hmmm I'm not sure about this, but the thumbnail picture looks the same as another ebay ad for one of these last month. Never seen the other two pics though. It seems odd the change in lighting and surroundings between one pic and the other two. Of course this could be perfectly legit but I think I'd be asking some very searching questions of the seller before bidding.

Yes John; that is a good point. And everyone should always look and look again and ask questions to the seller if anything looks suspect.

Since I just sold a perfect one on E bay for $400.00, I'd say yes, this is greatly over priced.
Ebay? Be careful,
