This is just to pass on a practice alternative ive been trying (not to be taken as any kind of rebuttal to others who have suggested fretboard variations, but probably influenced by them). I have a piece of posterboard cut which can be set over the fretboard completely covering it, which all but eliminates the fret visual cues, forcing the pitch targeting to be much more with the ears alone. Yes, it's wierd and uncomfortable but im wondering if it will help develop more accuracy and/or other subtle playing qualities in general.

I have stood right in front of Joe Wrights guitar and had a conversation with him while he was playing and he never looked down to see "where" he was on the neck and he just kept on playing the fire out of it, so it can be done!

I would think if you have a good set of ears and can hear pitch centers well, it would be very worthwhile. Can't count the number of times the stage lights got too low to see my guitar. So I had to learn by "trial by fire" to play "blind".
I've seen Buddy play blind....but it wasn't by choice...good ole' Jeff Newman had put a paper bag over his head!! But, he never missed a lick!! Amazing! _________________ Best regards,

Mike, perhaps painting one's frets with glow in the dark paint might come in handy sometime.
