Greetings Steelers, I'm Joe Eisenhart from central Pennsylvania, 51 and recently retired w/ knee replacements, from a 25 year locksmith career. Been a drummer all my life, then picked up resonator guitat a few years ago, and hammered dulcimer last year. Now the quest for the singing string, always dreamed of steel. Just aquired a Sho Bud 6139 S 10 Maple, 3 & 3, and should have her here Wednesday. If anyone could provide an instruction manual, or copies of, for this model I'd sure be beholding. I've got a lifetime of ??? for you guys but for now just happy to be here and look forward to talking with all of you...........Be Well, Joe http://www.myspace.com/quest4stringtheory |

Welcome neighbor, I'm actually very close to you. I also have a model 6139 S-10 3+3, one of the best-sounding steels I've ever heard. I don't have a manual for it, but if you search the pedal steel section on the old forum http://steelguitarforum.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi for search terms like 6139, barrel tuners, or something like that, there is a wealth of information on how to set these up. There are different versions of the 6139, mine is an early 70s rack-and-barrel version. First figure out which version you have, and then just dig out the info for it. There are also very knowledgeable people like Ricky Davis and John Coop here who are also very helpful. You should be able to get her up and hummin'. I'll tell you - the sound from those old Buds is amazing.
btw - the reason you need to search the old forum is that the new forum search function doesn't appear to go through the old forum posts that were merged in. So if you want to dig old posts out, you need to do it from the old forum search function. |

Joe,
Welcome to the forum. Was that the 6139 3+3 from Nashville that just sold on Ebay? If so, you got a nice machine there, at a great price. And James' advice about leaving the tone curcuit bypassed is sound. Apparently it's a lot better disconnected.
There are a lot of Sho~Bud fanatics here that can help you with any aspects of that guitar. You might have some questions about the rack and barrel mechanism underneath. You got a good one there for sure. Enjoy! _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Awesome folks here, thank you for the kind words. My steel was bought on eBay this past week from a fine gentleman in Hendersonville TN, a working steeler, kind enough to phone me and really explain this guitar. I came this close to buying a Fender 1000, but the maple Sho Bud grabbed me hard . Even called Mr Seymore's store to buy that beautiful featured LaGrand, no answer, fate wanted me to start out w/ the 6139. Sometimes Fate is wiser than us all. Thanks again Guys. Kindly be ready for a barrage of ???? when Blondie arrives.......Joe |
