You guys that have used either or both for steel, which do you like best? It seems the XT from what I've seen is the favorite for steel and the 2.0 for guitar so, what's different between the two?
Thanks Tony |

PODxt has more clean headroom than the 2.0 and much better
reverbs (both quality & variety). It's got great amp & pedal models to suit any regular guitar player as well.
The XT cost more, but you get what you pay for. |

I like my POD XT because with the bracket i got from Tommy Dodd the controls are so accessible. It hangs right on the leg of the steel and I can control. Also the tone i get with my XT and my Stewart power amp is excellent. |

I've used both, and definitely prefer the Pod 2 for guitar. I mainly use the Blackface I model (Deluxe Reverb). I acknowledge that the XT is somewhat "refined" over Pod 2, but I still prefer Pod 2. Sort of the same way I usually prefer an old blackface Fender with a little more hair than a silverface Fender (which typically have a more "refined", cleaned-up tone) or a Boogie (with lots of knobs and flexibility, but which also force the player to tweak the settings a lot, IMO.)
The XT definitely has more effects, options for effects routing, more amp models, USB digital in/out to a computer, better parameter editing on the Pod itself, and a bunch of other useful stuff. But for a practical gigging box for guitar, I still prefer V2. I use mostly spring reverb, maybe a little delay (and occasionally, the Leslie effect), and the Pod 2 versions are fine - again to my tastes. Spring reverb is more or less comparable to a Holy Grail - again to my tastes.
Of course, for steel, the cleaner and more refined amp models are an advantage to many players. But if I "deep-edit" some of the extra hair out, I like the Pod 2 for steel OK too. But I'm pretty happy with steel => volume-pedal => SG Black Box => delay => NV 112 for steel, so I'm more concerned with the Pod for guitar. I often use it to save me from having to drag two amps around, and run the Pod direct into the NV 112.
Of course, the only way to really hear the difference is - well - to try them both out, which shouldn't be too hard. Naturally, YMMV - these are just my opinions. |

I vote for the POD XT model, that I have.
There was a thread a couple months ago by a forumite that opted for the cheaper POD 2 and after he got it, he wasn't happy and said he should have went for the XT model. You get what you pay for, I guess. |

I have the PodXT, and love it, along with the ART SLA2 amp and the tones I downloaded off of Jack's website got a pretty good dobro sound, and leslie.

Thanks for all the replies. I have the 2.0 which I've not been using for steel and have thought about getting the XT . How about recording direct? I know nothing beats speakers but all my sessions are direct. Thanks again.
