I just acquired a profex 2 in a trade. I printed the manual off the Peavey website. I have 2 problems.
First is the wall wart is burned up. I am using a friends until I get one. Does anyone have one laying around?
The second issue is the Newman/other presets are loaded.
I want to change the order of them. I want the couple I would use to be next to each other. I tried moving a couple and in doing so it overwrote the preset stored in that spot leaving 2 of the same preset in different places and loosing the other one.
Can the "factory presets be overwritten?
How do I delete some of the "Newman" presets leaving space for presets I might create in the future?
Sorry for all the confusing questions. It's funny I can rebuild a P/P Emmons from coffee cans full of parts but can not seem to work something simple as a Profex. I think I will like it if I can figure out how to use it.
One last question, I have heard of a new processor with knobs to adjust each effect. I think it was a T.C. ??? Anyone know about them? I might consider replacing the profex if I cant figure it out.
Thanks in advance for all the help gang.

I have the Newman Profex II programs listing on my web site. You can download it for reference or if you wipe one out that you want you can manually reenter it using the data in the listing.

I have a Profex2 also...but I'm no expert on it. I DO like the unit a lot. If it doesn't have Ken Fox's Batteryless Mod, get it. It will eliminate the chance of the battery leaking and damaging the circuit board. Also, get the Burr-Brown Chip Mod. It will lower noise and greatly improve the fidelity of the Profex. It is a "must have" improvement and sounds great!!
Now, concerning your question....Here's what I think your options would be....
1. Download Jack's Newman Preset listing, then simply enter the the ones you like into the preset where you want them. This allows you to put them in any order you like.
2. First, find a group of presets you don't need, and copy your favorite presets to those unneeded locations (in any order). Then, copy them again (from the new locations), but this time put them in the order, and preset area, you prefer. This way you'll only loose the ones you don't like.
It would have been nice to have a "swap" feature where you could swap two preset locations easily, but I don't know of anything like that.
How 'bout one of our Profex gurus chiming in here with some expert advise? _________________ Best regards,

If you look at the listing you will see that many are basically the same, just with a different name.
As you use the unit (or any effects processor) you will find that there's really only a small number that you use or use frequently. The rest are rarely if ever used, so you really don't need them all. |

Justin,
You can take your favorites from bank "A" and put them in bank "B" in a successive order, or any order you like. I've moved 8 or 9 that I like. That way, you don't have to memorize where they are. It's a great little feature. You should find the "how to" in the manual. |

Thanks or the help so far gang.
I am still confused. I have the Newman presets as well as the factory ones (Which are more 6 string oriented). I just want to get the few settings I would use next to each other.
Let's see if I can confuse everyone here, I want to move say 5 programs to U1-U5. When I move them it wipes out what used to be there. There are many, many patches I wont use and I dont mind loosing them but i cant find a "spot" with say 10 patches I dont mind loosing. Or can I just loose all the factory crap and organize my settings there?
If I were to get one of those little cards that goes in the front could I dump the presets on the card then reload only what I want? Then (god forbid) try to create some patches?
I have found some cool presets in there that I would like to use but it just isn't gonna work if I have to search all day to find them.
Thanks for being patient with me so far. If you detect a little Peavey bashing in my writings, dont. I am just upset that I cant operate a simple effects unit that hundreds of others can with no trouble.
Ken, soon as I figure it out and decide to keep it I will send it to you for all the upgrades,Battery mod, power supply etc.
Thanks again gang.
Best,
Justin |

You can move the settings you wish to save to any location within the user locations. They will have a "U" on the right hand side of the name of the preset. Simply go to the preset you wish to move and press the store button. It will ask you where you want to store it and it will allow you to enter the number location you want, like U-01, U-02, etc. This will replace the user setting that was in that location. You will have to remember that when you scroll thru the presets, make sure the curser is under the first letter of the name of the preset, not the number.
Your next question was will a card help. Yes, it will if you want to save all of the Newman presets to the card and change the user settings to any you like. It essentially gives you 3 banks to choose from. However, this is not necessary at all. You have 128 user locations to store settings and they can be arranged in any order you wish.
Your next question was can the factory presets be over ridden. No, they can not. You can use the factory presets to edit and create new settings and then move them to the user locations, but once you exit off of them or switch presets, any editing you have done will be erased and the factory preset will return.
I hope this helps and if not, let me know and maybe we can talk on the phone and go step by step. The manual does help a great deal if you focus only on the programming and storing. Once you get into the midi and specs of the actual effects, it becomes somewhat difficult. At least for a Dumb Cajun like me!
