I'm getting ready to replace the pick ups on my MSA Classic D-10. I've done this in the past with an Emmons guitar but the way these ar mounted is different. On the MSA...the pick ups are mounted to a metal plate and I'm not a 100% sure but does anyone know if these plates are mounted with the screw located just behind the pick ups? Thanks for any help on this issue. |

I have a '73 MSA Classic with the narrow single-coil pickups, no metal plates anywhere. Maybe yours has the SuperSustain or SuperSustain II pickups? |

On my older MSA Classic there is a metal plate, held in place by two spring loaded screws. You loosen the screws, and the plate is easy to remove. I replaced the original pickup with a Lawrence XR-16 humbucker. I glued it to the metal plate with 5 minute epoxy, intallled it, set the height with the screws, and it works good and looks good. My guitar is one of the models with the polished metal housing around the pickup mounting area.
Hope this helps. Larry J. |

I had a Classic recently and it had a plate like that. The screws went up from the bottom of the guitar, thru the plate and in between the two coils of the hum-bucking pickup. Adjustment was from under the guitar, as I recall.
Here was a challenge, I want to use a Truetone, single coil. The screws would have ran right thru the coil
I took the plate and put the screws thru the plate, glued the pickup to the plate. I put that assembly into the guitar pickup cavity. Then from underneath the guitar I inserted the adjustment springs. I put a fender washer on each screw/spring assembly and a nut to adjust the pickups from under the guitar. Worked very well. |

On my Classic D10, I removed the old Supersustain pickups, with the screws up from the bottom, and installed L710's by getting some stainless steel screws and screwing down through the mounting holes from the top. You really don't need the metal plate. _________________ Michael Brebes
