You fine tune your pedals & knee levers by turning the knurled collars with your fingers.

My first pedal steel was a Sho~Bud fingertip. I ordered it from Shot Jackson and it was a beautiful guitar, however, it was a bugger to keep in tune. I traded it in on a later model Bud.

Jay,

Now that's steel tone. What a sound........and that's just coming from the video mic. I can't imagine how it sounds in the room.

Not that it would make much difference, but out of curiosity what amp are you using?

I am wondering because I have just aquired one. It is in pretty good shape but the pick-ups cut out at times. If I wiggle them a bit they come back. It was also a real fun thing to tune and adjust. Anybody have thoughts on this? Hey Jim, Mother's is what I used on mine. Some didn't shine so good but i was told that some of that is because the material in the casting pot wasn't always the same quality of metal.

Chris,
I used an original '65 Fender Deluxe Reverb (with Jensen speaker) on that clip.
It was actually recorded a few years ago using the little mic in the camcorder.

Jay,

I'm sure many 'Bud fans here would enjoy a longer clip of you playing that noble ole' beast. Do you have anything else? I'd love to hear the E9 neck as well.

Hey Craig, sometimes repeat the application four or five times, and most of the time it will shine up. Jagwire puts out a great polish in a purple bottle that will take care of the stubborn spots---it has a smidge of abrasive in it. Maybe I can talk my buddy Chris into posting a few pics of mine for me.

No sweat, James. I'm not at my home computer now, but when I get home later I'll post them. They're in my "Morehead 'Buds" folder. Cool

Hey Thanx Chris!! I appreciate it!!

(Who knows anything about those double "single-coil" pickups in the "cleaned up photos", besides the fact they are NOT originals?)

I have two period correct original pickups in this guitar now, and they are just stunning!! About the best sustain you can squeeze out of a shobud.

The best we can tell about my fingertip is it's about a '67. John Coop and I are going to rebuild the undercarrage on this guitar this spring. The existing factory undercarrage is quite "crude", and difficult to play.

And a full-frontal for good measure:

James, it's the first time I noticed it has 9 pedals. How did I miss that all this time?

I have to brag about my little part in this guitar finding its way to James. I saw it for sale during the St. Louis Convention last September, in the Derby room. I went to Coop (not sure where you were, James) and told him that a Fingertip was just around the corner with a "for sale" sign on it. He said, "what?!" I was surprised he didn't already know it was there. About a half hour later, I found James sitting in the Derby room, with Coop, tweaking the Fingertip through the VS-II. He looked at me with a s*#t-eatin' grin and said, "I bought it." At least I did something useful in the midst of bumming around James' Professional all weekend. Not that the boys wouldn't have sniffed it out eventually anyway......... Smile

I'm looking forward to Dallas, boys!

Yeah Chris, Your Shobud Radar was dialed in perfect THAT day, for sure!! Yeah and the nine pedals are a trip. I have the basic emmons setup on E9th, and some bare basics on C6th. We are going to install a Coop undercarrage under this pup. That's something Ricky and John have been brain-storming quite awhile now, the Fingertip upgrade. Notice someone pealed the decal off the front. I now have a new decal from John Coop---looks much better now! Laughing

Ok; I know what those pickups are in James' fingertip.
Those we're the very rare "Pete Drake" pickups that Sho-bud made to Pete's specs.
They are two rows of single coil reverse wound poles; blended together for humbucking; but single coil sound.(ah...ha...)

What is the style of mechanics under fingertips? Is it like a Permanant with the addition of the newer tuning parts on the back of the changer? Do those tune up better than a permanant? Is it pull/release or all pull?

Just curious about buds.

I was told I think by Mike Cass that it was Shot's idea of a push-pull. The lowers bottom out going one way and the raises the other way. The bell cranks are crude but effective. You can change the copedant cause I have changed a couple things already.
