| I wouldn't recommend one, the Peavey Nashville 112 blows them away. I have a Mini S15L and had a distortion problem with it a couple of years ago and the factory did not want to work on it, so I sent it to an authorized repairman in Dallas. Cost me $200 just to get a couple of components replaced. The same repair on a Peavey would probably have been $50. They are fairly low powered, and expensive. They don't give you very much bang for the buck. |

I have one that I have never had a problem with,and sounds great with not only steel,
but I do like my nashville 112 better for steel.
The poloytone is easy to carry around
since it is smaller and lighter than the 112. |

I would use this with my Archtop strung with .013 - .056. I like the size for some of the small jazz combo gigs I play.
It has 'that' sound.
I used to have one and was pleased. Never played the PSG through it at all.

Hey Tim, I seen some Polytones at Guitar Center in New Orleans. You might try calling to verify that.
You're right, they sound good for jazz. I have a Mini brute IV I use with a 7 string archtop.

I have a friend, locally, that has one. He plays with a big band and uses it with his Gibson Les Paul or he has an Ibanez 335 copy. He likes the amp, but he wants a Nashvile 400 as he likes the sound from it better for the pop gigs.
BTW, he is a retired Army Colonel. |

What I undrstand about the Polytones is that the electronic chips are no longer available,
if it breaks you must do some kind of circuit redesign, or throw it way.
There are some very fine alternatives these days anyway. |

You are 100% right David, and just because Joe Pass used them don't make them the best. If you want a modern Jazz amp that chews up and spits out a Polytone, check out Acoustic Image. I have a Coda IIR model that puts out 250 watts, has a three way speaker arrangement, digital reverb, and the whole thing only weighs about 30 lbs. It is also extremely compact.
Wes Montgomery and Barney Kessel at various times in their careers used Fender twins. You still can't beat this standard. Any of the parts are still available, and almost anyone can work on them.

I found a '65 Reissue Fender Twin Reverb Amp for $450.00 on the SGF buy and sell page. That will work for what I am needing. Plus, how can you pass up paying $450 +shipping for an amp that lists for $1499?
