Here is another clip of Doug and the band listening to a track they had just laid down. The song is Bob Dylan's "North Country Blues", which did not make the album. Doug was a friend and huge fan of Dylan, and we also cut "Love Minus Zero", which did make the final cut.
This was basically just a jam with tape rolling, and Doug shouting directions. This is pretty much the way the whole album was done. There were no charts and no advance planning whatsoever with regard to what we were going to record. Many times Doug would strum a chord, holler out what kind of beat he wanted, and count off a song, with everyone flying by the seat of their pants. And shame on me if I didn't have the machines running! After a while I learned to just let them roll until the tape ran out. The steel track is pretty much a mess, so go easy on me...
