It is just that it is taking exponentially more time than it used to get a piece to that level of perfection! I need to find a cure for that... IF there is one! As mentioned earlier, Coffee helps! _________________ blah, blah, blah.

60 is not "age"... I am going towards it and fast.
A TV add years ago, suggested "A Body In Motion Stays In Motion"
My step father walked 10 miles "Military Style" every day way into his 80's. I think it helped him outlast all of his Dr's predictions once he got Alzheimers.
At around 60, we feel things differently, especially when we do them after not having done them for a while. Aches and Pains.
I think the same holds true with Dexterity. It's not something we should only practice when we NEED it, we should practice it consciously.
I write a lot (I know, some are painfully aware of my rather long posts here, and you haven't seen all the stuff I write elsewhere!) and use the 10 finger system. I also work a lot on the computer and it's funny that the subject of Dexterity came up, as I meant to post about it, as I just lately changed or upgraded the way I work on my laptop's track pad: I now use not just my index to chase that pointer around and click and double click... but now use all 5 fingers. I make a point of alternating fingers...: drag with the index, select with the middle, two-finger select with thumb and middle but also with index and ring finger, and go on to drag with any of the other fingers. It took my a week to make it a habit and already I seem to see better dexterity on the instruments!
A Body That Is In Motion Stays In Motion.

A Little Mental Health Warning:
Tablature KILLS SKILLS.
The uses of Tablature is addictive and has been linked to reduced musical fertility.
Those who produce Tablature did never use it.
I say it humorously, but I mean it. |

At 81 when I’m on the band there is no speed limit..band energy takes me there…Just practicing at a comfortable speed is locking it in.. _________________ Excel steels & Peavey amps,Old Chevys & Motorcycles & Women on the Trashy Side |

The neurological disease you have is called ABD.
Accumulated Birthday Disease.
I'll be 77 in two weeks, and I've got it in spades.
My choices are, (A) do the best I can with what I've got, or (B) quit.
I'm going with "A". _________________ Well up into mediocrity

My hands and fingers still work pretty well for what my hands have been through over the years.
I try to get in some perfect practice every day, With U tube or sound tracks.
If I do not have a good rhythm section in a band I am in trouble. If I make a run up or down the neck, And Me, The Drums and Bass are not together. Seems my fingers do not want to pick.
2 weeks ago our young drummer was not at gig, The fill in Drummer was great, He pulled everyone to his grove he was laying down. He was a good singer too. I had a blast playing even some southern rock tunes. Got some good comments.
My fingers DID NOT act like they are 80 years old.
A blue grass band I grew up with had a saying, "The better musicians you play with, The better you play". So true. |
