Hey Guys,
I just bought a BEAUTIFUL SS8 from a fellow SGF Bro and am getting ready to restring it for the tuning I have decided to "just pick a tuning and go for it" with.
For you guys with the SS's, I LOVE the open headstock with the Sperzal tuners - My question is this:
I have always strung my Fenders with the string going OVER the nut and OVER the tuner post in the pan. This guitar was strung with the string going OVER the nut and UNDER the tuner post. I can see that you get a better "break angle" with better downward pressure on the nut that way, but the tuning knobs seem to work backwards to me.
How did yours come from the factory?

These photos from the Superslide web site seem to indicate the strings go over the tuner. However, you should string it up in whatever way works best for you.
My National New Yorker has a very narrow headstock, so I string it with the first andd sixth strings reversed (so they don't rub against the second and fifth strings). It's unconventional, but it works for me!

Now, you've got me wondering. I have a 12 string SS and the strings are under the post. I changed the strings one time myself, but I think I would have just duplicated the way they were from the factory. That seems correct. They all turn counter-clockwise to tighten.

Brad, what a great idea ... and obvious once you think about it. I'm going to do that with 1 and 8 the next time I change strings on my resonator.

| Hi James, I've owned the SS 6 string steel for two years now and I have not changed the strings yet. The strings pass over the bridge and the nut and over the tuning post. It came that way from MSA. |

Just right. My MSA SS-10 came strung over the posts as I believe they should. |
