Selling a JCH in Europe will be a hard thing to do.Marcel Parijs in The Netherlands had one for sale a while ago and it took him some time to sell it in Europe. My advice to you is to sell it across the big pond.
I know that a steel with a copedant like yours will make a good amount of money "IF" you sell it in Europe. But taxes will kill ya in Europe.
Good luck to you Didi selling this one. |

If you send a steel or amp by mail you have to put the value on the slip.If the guitar is on that slip for a couple G's you will see a difference in your shipping cost. Those differentiations in cost's will go to the state.Looks like taxes to me....or not TB? |

Ron, there are no taxes involved in this scenario. IF the shipment of an expensive item costs more than that of a cheaper item (weight and dimensions being the same), it can only be due to higher insurance against damage or loss. Nothing goes to "the state".
VAT applies only to new items sold by a professional seller (who will also have to charge VAT on used items). A private citizen cannot charge VAT on ANY item he sells. You have to be a businessman to do that. So your statement "taxes will kill you in Europe" is quite misleading.
If the guitar in question were shipped "across the big pond", the buyer would have to pay US customs and sales tax besides the obvious shipping costs and insurance. The weak dollar makes selling to the US market extremely unattractive for European sellers. Buying from the US OTOH is a pleasure now.

I used to own a JCH from the same year and it was one of the best sounding and well made steels I ever played. It is in Finland or Norway now. Jimmy Crawford sure had the touch as a builder. _________________ Bob |

Jimmy was in the process of building one for me when he passed away. IMO, there was something special about Jimmy; always in a good mood and just a joy to engage in a conversation, truly a wonderful one of a kind and IMO, a "Chief Master PSG Musician" and builder. In my winter years, now, I am in the market for one of the first seven PP Emmons that was built. I would just love to be a temporary steward of one of these guitars for a while. Let me add that if Jimmy had finished that guitar, I'm sure that I would never have sold it. To listen to the tone of a JCH, I believe that Buck Reid recorded his CD with a JCH, one of my favorite CDs. |

Dan, you've resurrected an 8 year old thread. I wonder whether the guitar ever found a new owner. Sure looks like a great axe and now the dollar is much stronger than it was in 2007. _________________ www.JimCohen.com
