I've alway's loved Hank Williams Music, and Don Helms on the steel guitar was the driving force in Hanks music, is he still performing? Also, i'm just learning, or trying to learn on the steel guitar, starting out on a little lap top that i have tuned to a C6 what tunnings did Don Helms use does anyone know and is there a good tunning for a beginner on the lap top steel??? One more thing, I have aquired a fender pedal steel guitar, 8 string, 2 necks, I know nothing about it, is there someone that can tell me a thing or 2 about,??

According to DeWitt Scott's book Don used E13th Tuning. Low to high on an 8 string he lists A-C#-E-G#-B-C#-E-G#. Confused Confused Billy

Just drop the bottom A and C# and it should work okay. Brad's Page of Steel has some E tunings. Confused Sad Billy

Just wondering- I see no D in the tuning and it was my impression that a 13th is built on a flatted 7th (D note in the key of E) with an added 6 (the C# in this case). And the A in the bottom- a 4? Maybe the tuning would be better called an E13? Dunno- just wanting some clarification~~

Hey Jim, Don's tuning looks like an E6th with an added 11th...the 9th or F# and the b7th or D is missing that would make it a E13th chord..somebody correct if I'm wrong...the 6th or C# becomes the 13th note but the other notes should also be in the chord unless you note they are missing.

I've heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that when Don recorded with Hank, he never used the bottom two strings, so you can probably play a lot of his stuff on 6 strings.
