As those more knowledgeable than I will underscore, serial numbers are virtually no help in dating Sho-Buds. Features (undercarriage, pedals, decal, tone/volume pots/switch on back ledge?) are more indicative, so a photo would be pretty essential for expert advice here. I have a 6139 with a 3XXX s/n that's been dated (through the features) to about 1969. (George L's PF-1 pickup replaces original, so no coil-tap function with the switch, as with an original Sho-Bud pickup.)

James! That's it! Thanks for posting the pic. I've never seen one like it before. It's a Baldwin/Shobud, and, it seems to me that it may be the earliest version of what would become "The Pro" a few years later. Notice the backwards parts!

Well John, how does it play and sound?? Interesting that the racks are "backwards", to what we normally see on an old Professional, but it probably does not make any sort of difference at all.  |

This picture of the double neck just above is just like the sho bud I just bought. The guts under mine was changed before I got it and not all original.Any clue of the year etc...The guy I bought it from says it was made early on in a garage before production really took off.He was the original owner from new.

| Chris, are you referring to my Fingertip pic that James posted? If so, I found the correct pickup for this guitar on eBay. I haven't started to restore it yet. I'm workin' on the Shobud/Baldwin now. It's covered up because my cats have decided it's the most desirable highground in my livingroom! |

Yes, John, I just figured that out.......James' Fingertip originally had an E66 on the E9 as well, so I got a bit mixed up.
