An excellant new showcase for the Hawaiian steel has just been 'kinda' announced.
I got an Email from 5000 miles away in dear old Illinois , that Alan Akaka is starting this music relationship with the Waikiki beach hotel for a series of shows every 2nd Sunday, from 2-4pm.
The kick-off on Aug. 12, will include Alan, and Greg Sardhina, along with a little histrionics.
Followed on Sept. 9, with headliner, Bobby Ingano.
Other top Hawaiian players will be included in these shows with the headliners. Players of all ages are encouraged to bring thier steels and jam.
Be there!

My Daughter Is on a C5 Air Force crew fron San Antonio, Tx and she called me a little bit ago and said they were at the Shorebird and they had 2 Stand ups and a lap steel - She said it's a real neat gathering. They explained the history of the steel and are playing. She's having a great time. |

Just back from Shorebird's in Waikiki. Caught the second part of the show which featured Alan Akaka and Greg Sardinha. Me and Bobby Ingano bought our steels down and each threw in a couple of solo's.
Looks to be a pretty promising place to promote steel guitar. It's a good start.
Hey Ron, what happened to you? You missed out on a good show. |

Just a heads up for AAA members in Southern California, the March/April 2008 Westways magazine has a nice little article about where to see Hawaiian music in Hawaii, written by Cheryl Chee Tsutsumi. The lead photo and most of the article features Alan Akaka and SGS.
There is also a concert/music guide with pictures of several of the acts (including a nice photo of the late Auntie Genoa). |
