I learned this song, "Hawaiian Love" from sheet music in the Jerry Byrd instruction book, and have never heard it played. Is this anything like what it should sound like?

Would also like to know who wrote it and when.

It's my first steel recording -- sorry for the irregular rhythm and volume.

Thanks for listening

Those are the notes.

Try to avoid sliding the bar backwards into random positions after hitting the intended notes. After hitting the note, either sustain it (maintain the position and vibrato) or allow some space (mute).

The more you play the song, the less you'll think about the bar positions... then your real feeling or voice will begin to come through.

Hi Steve. I am curious to know about your guitar and amplification. I have never played that song before but it does have a nice melody. Keep up the good work.

Steel guitar is a difficult instrument and it takes time to have control over all the many factors in play ... intonation, blocking, phrasing, touch, tone, etc. THere's just no getting around it. Desire is everything. Great start! Keep at it and please post a soundclip again.

Steve, you've come a long way in only, 2 weeks?
Sounds like you got your heart & soul heading in the right direction.
Good job

Thanks so much for the advice and encouragement!

Time to get some lessons from the local dobro teacher. I've been playing about two years and have developed some bad habits. The sooner I start correcting them the better.

John, I have a Gretsch lap steel and a small Ibanez amp, but this was recorded directly from the guitar into a cheap Tascam Porta-02MKII tape recorder, which I then take into another room and connect to the computer through an RCA-to-1/8" cord. The software is the free Hi-Q recorder.
