The cheapest I've seen are the fluger RGS but of course, this is strictly an electric instrument.
On the accoustic side of things, I've not seen any bargins. The least expensive is on this forum. If you look at the for sale section there is a Beard MA8 for sale. but we are still in the 3k area. |

AJ, How "almost complete" are you thinking?
Also, who is Greg McKenna and how might a person reach him or see his work? |

Gregg McKenna's web site appears to be down, but here's where it normally lives.
Back to the topic, I don't know of any "budget" eight string resophonic instruments. The market for such a creature is far too small; even six string resophonic guitars are a very small portion of the overall acoustic guitar market.

I will tell you this: I now have two 8 string resos. I will never own another 6 string reso. Best investment I ever made. [This message was edited by Bill McCloskey on 02 November 2006 at 08:51 AM.] |

Here is a Google cache of Greg's site: Google cache of McKenna Guitars web site.
I have one of his 8-string resos and it is a cannon! Very well built, great projection and sustain. [This message was edited by Brad Bechtel on 02 November 2006 at 08:47 AM.] |

I bought a real 8 string "Dobro" years ago. I really like it. I'll bet the music store was glad to get rid of it! |

I tried sending Gregg an email as listed on that Google cache page and it was returned as undeliverable. I am very curious about his 8 string kit guitars. Anyone know anything about Gregg's kits and if he's still in business? |

Delurking to offer this...
There's a mostly completed McKenna 8-string project for sale over on the ResoNation site. It's been available since mid-September. I was interested in this myself until a James Adams 6-string project took my available funds. You might want to check that out.

I got a real good deal on a Gibson Hounddog and gave it the drill, and file, and 2 added strings later. It worked out for me,,, and the string spaceing is wider than my Wright custom. I guess as long as the head stock isnt sloted and there is enough room.... if you want some pics email me. |

Gregg,
DO you have another website or some pix of your guitars to post?
I buy lots of stuff thru the forum, and so do thousands of others, so let us know.
thanks,
Drew

Gregg,
I'd like to see some posts of your 8 strings as well. Is your web site down for good, or is it just a temporary thing? |

,,,11 years of building guitars is great,,,but it is obviously unknown to the masses (at least here on the forum),,,and a means to contact you probably would help,,,, |

I spoke with Gregg a couple days ago. He's real easy to talk to.
One of my clients has two of his resos, a 6 and a 7string and speaks very highly of the quality and Gregg's character and work ethics.

I think most reso builders have familiarity that is regional. In New York and New England, Gregg McKenna is well known and has an excellent reputation.
Gregg, I'm a friend of Andy Bing's - Andy's been playing the reso he got from you recently when we get together. It sounds fantastic. |

Jack... Thanks for the kind words. You must have bought that 8 string used because I don't remember you as a customer. Hope you are enjoying it.
Mitch... Try emailing me through the site. The webmail address is no longer active.
Drew... I don't have another website. After about 5+ years of maintaining websites and sifting through spam and webmail,I'm happy not to have to deal with the website anymore and it saves me money. If I can ever get my ISP to fix my email account, maybe I can email a decent photo.
Bill... Enjoyed talking with you on the phone a couple of years ago when you were just starting to look for an 8 string. Glad you are happy with the new M.A.S. Beard and hope you are learning to play well.
Sonny... Sorry I was an unknown to the forum as you say. After having up 3 different reso-guitar websites that were all on the 1st page of a Google search under keywords "resophonic or 8 string resophonic" it's too bad I remained unknown as you say.I've also had some guitars listed on the forum buy/sell page in the past.
Loni... Thanks for the kind words. I enjoyed talking with you on the phone. I hope things are going well with you.
Ambrose... Thank you sir for the kind words. I enjoyed building that guitar for Andy and he's a very good player.
