This is the store in Tarzana, California.

I am not quite sure what to think about the telephone conversation I had with them. They sounded less than enthusiastic about doing business. Wonder if anybody had any experience positive or negative about this store? (edited to add url) |

To me it doesn't matter how well known a music store is. If the employees are not helpful and enthusiastic, I leave. Just think if you ever had an issue with your guitar. They would be hard to deal with. |

If you can deal with Norm directly, you'll have a great experience. I bought a few (overpriced, IMHO) but very cool steels from them over the past few years. Norm is a very nice guy who took the time to show me many steels they had packed away in the back of the store. I guess I was lucky to be there on the days he was there. Try to get in contact with him directly (it may be tough, I'm not sure). Hope this helps! |

Norm is indeed good one on one from my experience with him decades ago.
Too bad his hired help hasn't kept up the tradition. |

Thanks to all who replied.
Next time I call there I'll try to get hold of Norman himself. |

Just got back from the Santa Monica Guitar Show, and Intermountain Guitar and Banjo was there (from Salt Lake City, UT). They had a big sign by their table - "Mormon's Rare Guitars" LOL! Lots of nice steels, including several Weisses ($$) and a rare Knutsen Harp-Steel (NFS/Sold).
BTW I think Norman was at this show too; maybe that's why he wasn't in when you called? |

I was at that show yesterday (se my other post) Norm was there for a while as was Nick his repairman.
I've known Norman for over 25 years and he is a super nice guy, always polite and very knowledgable about most of his inventory. He is also very honest and will disclose anything he knows about the authenticity of a particular instrument.
The staff at the store are all generally nice people and as with many store's staff, they tend to be a bit lax in their salesmanship skills. I don't think they are on commission, so the incentive to be proactive is just not there. Of course that's no excuse for rudeness if that's what you felt happened to you.
Ask for Norman and tell him Loni sent you and he'll probably charge you another 10% |

I've also known Norman for 30+ years and have nothing but good experiences to report. He and I were involved in some studio work about 12 years ago and he used to pay me with lap steels. |

Despite appearances, that is not a HALO over Mike's head in his picture. |
