I bought a pair of cobalt plated fingerpicks from Elderly about a month ago - the ProPiks reso style with the angled blade.

I've been using this style pick for a few years now and while visiting Elderly I decided "what the hell, I'll try the cobalt".

Well, they do work! The cobalt plating is definitely more slippery feeling and the pick noise is definitely cut back.

Now my question:

Does anybody cobalt plate steel guitar bars? I'd buy one.

The same guy (Bob Perry) that plates the picks also does bars. The only stock steel he sells plated is a Stevens, but you can send him any bar for plating.

I figure that if my tone bar was any smoother/slipperyer (new word?) I wouldn't be able to hold it, and I drop it enough now!!

I believe that Bob can plate the bottom smooth and the grip area with a rough texture. That's the way he does the picks.

I sent Bob an email asking about getting Lap Dawg bars plated, and he replied that it would cost $6 each. That sounds more than reasonable to me, If anyone else would like one done I am going to buy a few and get them plated. Total cost would be about $30 each, plus shipping. Anyone want one? I could probably get some Shubb bars too.

They should plate the strings instead, then the bar could remain not-as-slippery.

Hell... just plate the whole damn world.

Maybe people would get along better.

How do you think a cobalt plated bullet bar would compare to a chrome plated bar?
