I made the mistake of buying a new Dell computer which had Microsoft Vista installed. Members should be aware that most music recording, editing and synthesizer programs, and CD artwork programs, do not work on Vista, and even some programs specifically sold for Vista are XP programs which refer you to a website for upgrades, and then when you go to that website you find that the upgrades have not yet been written.
I sent the Dell machine back and bought a Systamax machine instead, which has XP Pro installed with a Vista upgrade disk, which I shan't use until Vista has been out long enough for all the upgrades to have been written.... |

I don't know what programs you were using, but I've got Vista Home Premium, a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound card that has Vista drivers.
I've got Nero 7 Ultra which is both XP and Vista compatbile for CD/DVD burning.
I've got several audio programs, including Band in a Box and Cubase LE and they are Vista compatible.
I have Office 2003 Pro and it's compatible.
In fact, everything I had on XP except MusicMatch Jukebox works in Vista. I upgraded from Windows XP to Vista. |

Jack, you're lucky. The programs I used caused the operating system to lock up. |

Programs older than those made for XP may cause problems and peripherals (e.g. printers) must have Vista specific drivers and if none exist then the device is not Vista compatible.
There is a "compatibility" mode that may allow some older programs to work in, for example a Win98 mode.
But, if it's an old DOS based program forget about. DOS is mostly dead. |

No, I'm talking about software made for Windows XP Pro, and, in one case, software touted for Vista, but in fact not compatable with it. |

Michael, at this time I don't think it is. Go to this forum and look at the Vista thread under "Music Computers". www.gearslutz.com |
