Look what I just got on Ebay:
Auction on eBay Austria.

Considering prices of old lap steels in Europe, I think this one was a steal. Keeping my fingers crossed that the pickup works well.
Is there anything else I should know about this model?
Would the serial number X8870 give a hint about the year this one was made?

Congratulations! The serial number dates it to 1958, and if the pickup is a little weak I'll recommend a pair of NIBro magnets from Rick Aiello,- they'll bring new life to any Valco/Supro pickup.
The tuner buttons seems like they're crumbling a bit, if that's a problem you can get new replacement buttons from StewMac.

Thanks! Is there a specific site for that kind of info on Supros? How do I tell whether this is a Supreme or Clipper model (they seem to look the same - not that it would matter).

Here is a site that identifies Valco/National serial numbers by date, scroll approx halfway down the page until you see "Serial Number Plates 1940-1964." (if this link doesn't take you there directly).

I agree, the Clipper and the Supreme looks identical to me, so I don't know how to separate them. Perhaps Brad or someone else will join with some info on that...

X8870 would put it in 1952, not 1958. It's a Supro Supreme. The white cover over the pickup was present in models from 1949 to 1955.

If it's in good shape otherwise and the pickup is strong, you have a good deal. It may have the old style Amphenol or Switchcraft screw on connector rather than a standard guitar jack. Do a search on this site to find our previous recommendations on this issue.

Congratulations!

Ah, of course! Seems like I added one "0" to many, I do that all the time, especially when I pay my bills.......
