I wasn't there at the time but I understand from a fairly accurate and reliable source that it was the Grand Old Opry house band steel player on his Bigsby Guitar........none other than the kid with the wavey hair, and smiley face that played great twin guitar stuff with one of the greatest lead guitar players and in later years, one of the most respected record producers and in-demand session players; Grady Martin of the Slew Foot Five group on Decca Records; Red Foley, Marty Robbins, etc.
Oh, the question.
That particular steel guitar player I believe was Billy Robinson..........one fine steel guitar player. These days you see him at guitar shows all over this great land playing his "Derby" lap steel and executing string pulls with the behind the bar, left hand fingers, sounding a lot like a pedal player, as some would say. |
