Fellows,
I was listening to one of Zane Beck's albums with Bobby on it and I couldn't help admire Bobby's ability. If Bobby played psg, "Which he does a little" but if he played the pedal steel like he does guitar, I think Julian Tharpe would take a step back.
Last year I picked up a CD with Bobby and his friends on it, and it was absolutely awesome.
I don't know, maybe we should nominate Bobby Caldwell to the steel guitar hall of fame. I don't believe there has ever been a guitarist that has supported PSG and been in the "thick" of it as much as Bobby has.
Bobby, I was doing a gig a few weeks back with a fellow guitarist that said to tell you hello, Tommy Criswell.

Bobby is awesome and one of my all time favorite guitar players. I've been lucky enough to be on the stage with him a few times and it was a pleasure working with him and hearing him play. Taste, tone, excellent choice of notes. I totally agree, he is Da Man.

If we were now in an era where guitarists were appreciated as they were in the past, Bobby would be
recognized in the ranks of Hank Garland, Tal Farlow,
Chet Atkins, etc. I always hold him up as the example of a complete guitarist. No matter what the setting, he is always able to come up with the perfect phrasing or backup.

I totally agree with all the posts above this one. I have had the privelege of working many, many times with Bobby over the years we have known each other and certainly numerous hours every day for the past twenty or so years as we work the ISGC show in St. Louis. Bobby never ceases to amaze me with playing ability. He IS my all time favorite guitar player and more than that "my friend". I totally agree Bobby is "Da Man".

| Thanks so much to all for the kind words. To hear that from the great Bobby Flores makes me very humble. Bobby is the most talented player I have ever met. With all of that he remaines a great guy. I can't say enough about Bobby Flores. What a player he is, and I love his vocal talent as well. Bobby is another guy who's not just a good player, but is good people. I'm honored to call him a friend.
I second his nomination to the SGHOF.
In fact, the core St. Louis staff band should be inducted en masse. Bobby, Roy, Russ Wever, and Jimmy Queen. These guys are always there, year after year, playing for hours at a time, backing up the steel players and entertaining us with their wizardry.
Whatever Scotty pays them, it's not enough.

| I must say when people like Roy Rosetta say such nice things about, what can you say. He is such a talented musician. How did I get so lucky to work with people like Roy and then become friends with them? Well, Roy is not just a friend he is my brother. Man, Bobby your gonna have to get a bigger hat size.
I heard a rumor that your playing the convention this year. Is your hand all healed up now ? I sure hope so.
I'm coming up Sat. Scotty H,Bo, Tommy Miller, Starla, me and maybe Jimmy are supposed to do some songs from my CD and the Jazzabillie CD in the Derby room.Stop by and pick a few with us, if you can keep up?...  It will be great to see you again.

| Although I do not know him personally, I believe that he is by far the best guitar player that I have ever heard for a steel guitar players best friend. When I first heard 'Jammin at Scottys" I was amazed that I never heard of him until then. Well let me tell you something, I always look for the guitar players name on any CD or Cassette that I purchase. If he is on it, I purchase it for sure. If not, I have to think about it sometimes. If he is a gentleman as well as he plays and it LOOKS like that to me, then I know for sure he is a great guy. Bobby, I second the notion for you to go into the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame. Does not matter who you play with or for, you are the best IMHO. Keep Pickin because you are the best in any music category there is and you can play it excellently! Neal Yeagley |

I'd heard his name for a good while but had never really paid much attention to his playing until I attended my first Steel Convention in St. Louis in 1987. I couldn't believe just how versatile Bobby was. No matter what player was up or what style of music was played he nailed it! And to top it off he'd help move equipment when needed and even sang a little harmony here and there and did anything needed to make things work for everyone. Bobby can't be pigeon holed like a lot of other guitarists (including myself) as he can play it all, anytime, with anyone! One of my favorite guitarists for sure!...JH in Va.

| Bobby is one of the main reasons I have attended and will still be at many Scottys shows.(of course Lord willing) But his stamina is something that also impressed me ,the numbers of hours those fingers press the strings and the many songs those fingers make sound so great.Recently Bobby has had hand surgery and it is great to know that he has recovered from it and will once again be on the St. Louis Stage.. Hall of fame ,why not? Bobbys been one of the big reason the show is most succesful and the players can always count on backing like the record......Plus in my book he is certainly already Famous.... |
