Hi.. I have just put another little video on you tube. It will be the last for a while as I have plenty of jobs to do around my house and I am going to see 'Blondie' tomorrow locally in the Thetford Forest.. Anyway here's 'Hello Mary Lou'..I'm looking a bit tired too! Hope you like..

David,
Again I am flabbergasted. You 'have it', man.
Would you mind giving us a little bit of info on yourself?
I read a bit about you playing in Sarah Jory's band and learned to play the steel that way...
But... how long have you been playng...I mean from the first time you tried a steel?
What was your practice routine like?
What devices did you use to help you along...like courses from different players? Rhythm tracks?

Some info I found about David. He sure is fun to listen to.
At the age of 13, Dave played bass guitar with New Silver Ace, a very successful country band in East Anglia during 70s. Dave then went on to play pedal steel guitar with the band from the age of 18. At 21, he decided to give it a try going professional with Country Shack, an Essex based band. During this time, he toured with Mo Bandy (USA), Roy Drusky USA), Dotsie (USA), and played annually on the main stage at the famous Wembley Country Music Festivals backing George Hamilton IV, Rex Allen Jnr., and many others, along side stars from the USA like Emmylou Harris, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Boxcar Willie and many more too. Having 2 years on the road as a pro, he then decided to go back to his trade as an electrician but to continue playing with local bands, fitting in recording sessions whenever possible. Its very possible that if a pedal steel guitar is heard on tracks played in supermarkets and stores, or other artistes from UK and Ireland, its David Hartley, as many recordings have been done in recent years. Today and since summer 2005, David has again been busy in his own recording studio in Suffolk preparing all his own backing tracks for Amarillo County Music Duo along with the beautiful Fran Allum. |

David; That is a fantastic job; I loved that number when " The New Riders Of The Purple Sage" came out with it, but, man, you do a great job on your " RAINS". I, too, think it would be great to see & hear you in person at " THE DALLAS SHOW" come next March.I would lend you my " ROW BOAT", if you would paddle it across the BIG POND.. Chuckle;chuckle.. That is some sick picking, David. I love playing that makes me laugh - flawless technique combined with tremendous creativity is all too rare a combination. It had me on the floor thinking "NOW what's he gonna play"?

Simply excellent playing, David. Your technique is very good, but best of all, your "feel" is superb. You definitely know how to pull the emotion out of a song. Impressive and very enjoyable to sit back and listen to. A great combination of skill and intuition.
