Last Sunday morning Ropers club on Hwy 36S in Sealy burnt to the ground. I have not heard anything for sure about the cause of fire or if anyone was hurt. It was sad to see it go because it was a great place for Austin County to gather and have a good time. _________________ ShowPro SD10, Mullens RP, Bose S1 Pro, GK MB200, MB500, Bugera T50 Tube amp with SlidgeRig, TC HOF reverb effect. |

"Jewish Lightning" maybe.
Just an old saying, not to poke fun at the Jewish Faith. |

A ticked off steel player because the 3rd string went "KA-POW" during a hot solo.
Look at the bright side of the picture, Hopefully the owner will rebuild it bigger and better. Meanwhile, hopefully some of the clientel will drift over into the surrounding Houston areas. |

Ropers was a good gig. We (Lonely Road Boys) were on regular rotation there. Always a good crowd. Jody. |

Checking through my records, I've been on 37 gigs at Ropers in the last 9 years, with 6 different groups.
We had 3 more dates booked in the next few months, too. So it's been a very good gig for me.
My first time was April 17, 1998 when the club was called Austin's. It was my second gig on steel in front of real people, and I remember being very nervous.
One time we were playing along about midnight and a round of tequila shots came up for the band. They were sent up by Doug Supernaw, he lives out that way somewhere. His guitar player was filling in for our normal guy that night.
The folks in the crowd always enjoyed the traditional stuff most, I think - Silver Wings, Swingin Doors, etc.
It has always been fun to play there, and they have always taken good care of the bands I've worked there with.

Wow, I knew he was in some trouble with the law, but I didn't know he went off the deep-end! _________________ Stew |

Been over a year since I was there. Will be playing Friday night with the Horizon Band. Looking forward to seeing how they've re-done the place after the fire. |

Hi James, the old place looks real nice. I wish they had enlarged the band stand a little. Nice new wood dance floor. The first time I played there in the late 70's or early 80's it was Austins and a lady named Dolores owned the place. The last time was 2 weeks ago with Greg Kent and Lonely Road. Have fun. Jody. |

Well, our gig was cancelled at the last minute. Our production crew had arrived already and were waiting for the manager to show up and let them in when they heard the bad news. Turns out they had "double-booked" us with another band. |
