I posted this in "Recording" but I'm not getting much response,,,maybe this catagory is where it should be,,

I intend to put some BIAB tracks on an IPod player (for more mobility) and have no idea how to do it!!! Also,,,is there one player that would be better for this application than another? This is something that I saw Mike Auldridge and a couple more guys using in Dallas and seems like a great idea,,,,IPod in shirt pocket,,,small cable to amp CD input and ,,viola,,,instant band!!!

* Create your track in BIAB
* Make a WAV file of the track in BIAB (store the WAV on your desktop or in a folder)
* Open ITUNES and transfer the WAV to ITUNES
* Connect your IPOD to your computer and ITUNES will transfer the track(s) to your IPOD

I have over 500 BIAB tracks on my IPOD, and they are very handy for practice, teaching lessons, etc.

In ITUNES you can create Playlists and name them, and drag whatever tracks you want into the Playlist.
For example you could have STEEL SET 1, BIAB Slow Country, etc.

ITUNES is a free download.

There are a lot of mp3 players out there, but I'd suggest getting the IPOD. You can download the free ITUNES software before you get an IPOD and start using ITUNES to organize your current mp3's, convert your favorite CDs, set up some Playlists, etc. When you get your IPOD and install it on your computer, ITUNES will transfer everything to your IPOD. All changes, new songs, deleted songs, playlists, etc. are done on your computer in ITUNES and the changes will be tranferred to the IPOD every time you patch it into your computer. The user can not make changes on the IPOD itself. Everything is done on the computer and transferred to the IPOD. No songs can be taken out of the IPOD (without special software).

Sonny, The BIAB files must converted to WAV files in order to play them in ITUNES, or to play them in any program other than BIAB.

Go to BIAB and open the song you want to play. Mix the instruments to the volumes you want, set the number of choruses you want, tempo, etc. Then click on the button that says .WAV The song will play and a WAV file of the song will be created and stored on your computer. When the WAV is completed take note of where that WAV file is stored on your computer. It will be either in the BB folder, or on the desktop, or possibly in another folder. If you can’t find the completed WAV, click on Start/Search and search for it on your computer. Either drag the WAV to the desktop or take note of the folder it is stored in.

Then open ITUNES. Click on FILE, Add File To Library. Select the folder where your WAV is located (or the Desktop if it’s there), highlight the WAV, click on OPEN and the WAV will transfer to ITUNES.

To set up a Playlist in ITUNES. Click on the + sign on the bottom left of the ITUNES screen. Name your Play list (for example, Steel Tracks ). Click on Recently Added, and drag the newly added track(s) to the Playlist. Connect your IPOD to your computer, and the new ITUNES material will be updated to the IPOD. It’s also a good idea to leave the IPOD connected to the computer until the battery is fully recharged.

Hey Doug,,thanks a million. However,,I thought at some point it must be converted to a MP3 file. BIAB says I can click on DXI-synth and it will convert. I guess at that point I can use the procedure you describe to get it into IPod,,,or,,,since you do this on a regular basis,,,maybe I don't need to convert it????

No, it does not need to be converted to an mp3. iTunes will convert it to a different type of audio file (I'm not sure what kind) when you "Add to Library" in iTunes. According to what I've read, iTunes can read, write, and convert between MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG-4, AAC.

So you transfer your WAV files (BIAB WAVs) directly to iTunes, and iTunes converts them as they load. Same with mp3s, just "Add to Library" in iTunes. Same with your favorites CDs. Put them it your computer and "Add to Library". iTunes will take care of everything.

Converting you iTunes songs Back to mp3 however is a bit of a trick!

Hey Doug,

That's really very useful information (I've been wondering how to get BIAB file into iTunes as well).

Do you know if this holds true for Macs? Because I don't have a .WAV button on my screen and can't seem to find any information for exporting as Wave files in the manual or on the PG site.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks anyway. I found out how to do it on a Mac. it was right there in the FAQ section of the PG Music website. http://www.pgmusic.com/techfaq7.htm#55

Basically, you save the file as a MIDI file, put it on your desktop (or wherever) then drag it into a new playlist in iTunes and control click the song, selecting the "convert file to MP3" option.

Thanks for the help,
~eric
