Johnny Cox is phenomenol. he can sit down to any steel guitar, regardless of how the knee levers and pedals are hooked up, and play just like it was his set up. A great christian gentleman also. Jody.

That is just beautiful. In 1981 I saw Johnny Cox for the first time at the ISGC and man did he tear that guitar up. He sure made a huge impression on me.

I saw Johnny Cox once... as he walked into Jeff Newman's classroom in 1978. Jeff introduced him as the steel man behind Cal Smith. I hope I am correct when I think that Johnny is the one who plays steel on Cal's records: Country Bumpkin; The Lord knows I'm Drinkin'; Between Lust and watching TV. Those songs are all evergreens as far as I am concerned. There are steel lines and breaks in there that have gone down in Steel Guitar history.
Thanks for your contribution, Johnny.

You guys are too kind. I actually never played on any of Cal's records. Those were the days when the road guys were never good enough. John Hughey did several even though he was a road guy with Conway. Weldon Myrick did a bunch including Country Bumpkin and Jeff Newman did some. Seems as though thats still the case in the big fine town of Gnashville. I did record with Ernest Tubb after leaving Cal. And I recorded with Mel Tillis. These are the only two of all the artist I worked for that I recorded with. Since moving to Texas I've recorded with Johnny Bush, Ferlin Huskey / Leona Williams, Justin Trevino, Ron Williams, Mike Siler, Jake Hooker (on my cd) and I am about to do a cd with Tony Booth and one with Jody Nix.

We all know what a great player Johnny is. Nothing more need be said about that.

But in the course of having my Millennium build, I had quite a few conversations with Johnny ad got to know him a little as a person.

I had a million questions, and bugged the man incessantly. But Johnny was always patient, and treated me not just with the courtesy due any customer, but as a friend a brother. And after I received the guitar, he continued to do so.

Now he has become that friend and brother, and while I love the Milly, getting to know Johnny is one of the best things about having gotten it. He and Joan and I had dinner together in St. Louis last year, and it was one of the highlights of the weekend.

BTW, while he was setting up the Milly, I sent him one of my older steels so hew could see how I had my knee levers arranged, and he found a problem with it and fixed it, at no charge, just out of the goodness of his heart.
