Have you tried stainless wound strings on your Stringmasters? If so, what was your feeling about it.
Same question on the Remington guitars. Herb packages stainless string sets - does he put them on the guitars he makes?
Thanks in advance for your info or opinions.

I've tried them on a Stringmaster, and I prefer nickel wound.
Stainless strings are brighter, and Stringmasters don't need help in the brightness department.
Herb will put whatever kind of strings the customer wants on his guitar. Steelmasters are less trebly than Stringmasters so the stainless strings would be suitable.
But my preference is nickel wound on Steelmasters too. They just seem to have a smoother feel.
Remember though, that's just my opinion. Everybody hears and feels differently, and what's great for me might grate on you.
You don't know what your preferences are until you've experienced the options yourself.

Bob, Nickel strings have so much bite it may cause an "earache" in many players ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/wink.gif) |

Interesting adjective Jody - I haven't heard "bite" used before to describe nickel wound strings.
I agree nickel's feel better under the pick and bar - smoother, even more flexible under the pick. Less bar/string noise too. To me the nickel wounds sound less bright or brilliant than the stainless. That's why when you said nickel "bite" my ears kind of perked up.
For more bass string separation in the sound I ended up liking stainless more on pedal steels and my Sierra lap steel.
So last week my old mind had a delayed "bright idea" - why not try the stainless wounds on my Stringmaster. But I thought I'd like to see what your experience had been.
Your ideas and opinions are always welcome and considered. Thanks.
