Topic: Seeking advice about double neck and a trade |

I'm new to steel, am currently playing a Gold Tone six string. I think I need a double neck non pedal. What's out there? The only thing I see is maybe a new Remington? I have a beautiful Gretsch Nashville Jr. I would trade, think anyone would be interested?

Lindy: I guess you will get as many reponses to this question as there are players. Many would steer you to a Fender Stringmaster, double or triple even, which has a unique clear sound, and you can't go wrong with that, especially as an investment. Many like the Remington, which I have never heard, but there are several postings about how it compares to the Stringmaster. And, there are of course, many old doubles by various makers with their good and less good points.
I think it really all depends on what sort of music you intend to play. I recently went from a single to a double, but I did that because the group I play with does mostly 40's and 50's country, and a lot of lush "thick" pop material from the same time period. I had a 12 string Superslide from MSA and I traded it back to them for an 8 + 10, which just fits my needs, and is a marvelous instrument, and which I strongly recommend to you. You might want to get a copy of Bobbe Seymour's "Superslide Slide-Off" DVD which compares a few diffferent players and different double and single neck Superslides.
I wish you luck. I think my double will keep me challenged for a long, long time.

Remington Steelmasters are great guitars.
My main Steel Guitar that I usually take to live performances is a triple neck Steelmaster.
It sounds wonderful and always stays in tune.
Herb makes a great double neck too.

Keep it coming.
Steelmasters seem impossible to find at least in these neck of the woods or anywhere and pricey. I'm hoping to stay in a $1200 to $1500 price range. No more cheap instruments, the screws holding the saddle down worked their way out of the body on my current steel a couple of days ago.
Ricky, what a beautiful looking instrument, I'll check my lottery ticket first thing in the morning and can hopefully give a call.

Remember; you get what you pay for.
I had a (will not name)2000.00 dollar non-pedal steel that sounded like a pedal steel and had some building problems with it.
With a Georgeboard; you get what you pay for> meaning; it is has lifetime warrantee and built to play and sound like a non-pedal steel in a very authentic way. The wood that George uses alone; is worth more than most out the door non-pedal steel sold today.
George's details to precision is un-surpassed and the accuracy to playability and sound; is
un-matched.
