I am basicly a pedal steel player, but I am interested in the Weissenborns. Are the ones on Musicians friend any good? Worth bringing home? I am just a porch picker, so don't want to spend to much, but still want some quality.

I think you're talking about the Gold Tone Weissenborn guitars that Musician's Friend offers.
They've gotten generally good reviews from what I've seen, but I have not had the opportunity to play one.

I just purchased a Gold Tone SS and it is much louder and has more sustain than my Oahu square neck. A good guitar to start on "not junk". I would however buy used and not over $400.

The Gold Tone is an excellent starter guitar, especially if you buy, as suggested here, used. If you buy new you simply must face up to the fact that for not much more you can get a truly excellent guitar from either Superior Hawaiian Guitars or from Lazy River.
