My sincere apologies to SG purists, but ...
I am into guitar effects (SG and Fender strat).
I am thinking of investing into a floor pedal guitar workstation like the DigiTech GNX4:

These units have pedals which can be used to control volume, wah, special effects, etc. (as well as other pedals as on/off switches to amp models, cabinet models, reverb, phaser, eq, and about 75 other effects.
What do you folks think of using such a unit to replace the traditional pot volume pedal, and use the effect pedal(s) to control not only volume as normal, but wah, special effects, eq, reverb, etc., etc.
Anybody out there done this? |

Try before you commit- I know that the Pod pedal is too slow and sonically jerky (maybe works with internal MIDI or something?).
The Digitech I have not tried.

Don't those sit up a little too high for use with pedal steel? Just asking, I love effects too!! I have 3 SE-50's & 1 ol profex, use em all the time.

Currently using a Boss (Roland) GT5 multifx (now superceded by GT6 at least) with lap steels and guitars but the volume pedal seems to work in steps rather than smoothly, maybe something to do with MIDI? It's really annoying so...
I'm getting a 'proper' swell pedal for the steels, probably Jim Dunlop, and I'll patch this in before the FX Unit. The GT5 volume pedal is fine with guitars.
Best to take your steel into the dealer and try out everything before purchase??

I remember using a Korg 1000G multi fx unit on guitar and the volume pedal patch worked just fine! I also think that most of the multi units will probably be too tall for your knees under the guitar. Still, while sitting behind your steel, take your foot off the volume pedal and measure the distance between the top of your knee and the bottom of the guitar and you'll have the maximum height the unit can be.

I raised the height of my triple to get around the fx pedal height issue, but it's going down again when I get the bespoke vol pedal.
