George Xanthos, a true gentleman, wonderful player and great ambassador of pedal steel/lap steel/and dobro here in Australia passed away last week following a long battle with cancer. I believe he died 27th June,2007. He played and promoted steel guitar here for many decades, especially Emmons for which he was a well recognised distributor. Even sold myself a couple of guitars over the years.
I'm sure he has many mates particularly in the states who will share in our loss and I just thought I'd take advantage of using the forum to pass this news on. Maybe some of you who knew him would like to post some messages, I'd be happy to pass them on to Lorna his wife and Kaylene and Ricky his children. Its a very sad time as I doubt any one person has done more for steel guitar in Australia than George. Hope he finds a good Emmons up there and he continues to make great music.
