It says it's from the 30's. I don't play lap steel but someone here should know if it's for real. http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=2232392

Looks legit--Paul Tutmarc holding similar or identical guitar:

I think this photo is reversed.

Bud Tutmarc often claimed his dad (Paul)created the first electric bass. If this is indeed true, I think we might be looking at it in the above photo !

I just picked up a single 8 off of Ebay similar shape to the double neck in the picture (cut in half) mine has a amphenol conection in the same location. It also is set up for 7 strings, but uses 8 string tuners. I guess it was easier to use the 4 on a strip tuners x 2. I guess that way you could have an 8 string with a nut and bridge swap, or just re-notch.
The sound isn't real strong, maybe a re-mag would help. It's a soldly made beautiful design (IMHO) Mines flamey walnut I think.

Very cool pic!

Keoki, the guitar/bass world only fairly recently acknowledged the fact you mentioned about Bud inventing the bass as we commonly know it today.
For decades it was Leo Fender that got all the credit for that, but of course it was Leo that made it an institution.

Tutmarc never get's much attention for the inovation's and fine instruments he produced so long ago, or for his sweet touch on the steel.
