This may be in the wrong spot.. A question for you Deckley owners. I have a Deckley U12 and need to replace the pickup. Who makes a pickup that will fit with minimal or no changes to the neck? And if the neck has to be modified whats the best way to do it?

Larry, I don't know of any currently available replacement PU for a Dekley. If your's is bad, I'd send it out for a rewind to your specs...single coil, or humbucker.

As for the PU cavity, the Pakkawood used for the neck is extremely hard, being laminated at high temperature under very high pressure, and it's very difficult to cut or route (it eats bits for lunch). I think you'd have to have it enlarged at a machine shop. But, once done, you could use any standard pickup it the guitar.

Thanks, Mike. Having to machine the neck was my main concern. I would probably have to dissassemble the guitar to keep from getting shavings in the changers. Does George L or Bill Lawrence rewind these pickups?

I would think Jerry Wallace could rewind any kind of pickup, as long as he could get to the coil wire. If not, he could make a replacement that would match the size needed. Give him a call...505-746-6022...he's a great guy.

You need to send it to Jerry Wallace or Jason Lollar.

I have a Dekley D-10, but I installed Bill Lawrence 710 narrow mount pickups in mine. Had to drill (2) hole each neck for the mounting screws in the cavity bottoms, but they fit good and sound great. I had to file the metal mounting flanges on the pickup bottom to add a wider radius, but no big deal. I am not sure if Bill make a 12 string 710, but I would recommend them.
I use tube amps, and it really helped the noise, and increased the output. Great pickups.

Lefty, Bill does make a 12 string version of the 710...the 712.

Lefty, The 712 is 1 1/3" wide what ever a 3rd is. I'm thinking it must be 1.375. The opening in the neck is only 1.25. I think the length is ok at 4.25. Do you know what the opening on your D10 is?
