Back in the 60's I used to jam with a dobro player named Cal Hand. He was a student at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated and I lost touch with him. Then I heard him playing dobro on the Prairie Home Companion. I tried to get in touch with him via PHC and other sources ont the net, but with no luck. Perhaps some of you dobro players out there know Cal and will have him get in touch with me, or can tell me something about him. Thanks.

Michael

Michael, when you track him down, say a big howdy for me. When I first started playing in the 70's I was kind of hung up on trying to play faster, more hot licks, etc.
I got a copy of "Dreams and All That Stuff" by Leo Kottke with Cal playing some very simple, yet beautiful and poignant lines, just perfect for the music. It was a real wake-up for me, and re-directed me toward "playing for the song". Great stuff I still listen to for inspiration. So, hi and thanks, to Cal.

Yes, he is a very expressive player of both dobro and pedal steel.

His album, "The Wylie Butler" is a wonderful and soulful solo recording
