Roger,

I've used a MosValve 500 into 4 ohm Black Widows for a long time. I don't think you'll have any problem. Just make sure your Mosvalve can breathe for cooling purposes.

If you run two 4 ohm speakers in series, that will be 8 ohms, which is what is recommended. Two 4 ohm speakers in parallel will be 2 ohms, which is not recommended.

I used 8 ohm BW speakers with mine, because of the recommendation on the back of the amp. I never had the gain control over 5 the whole time I had the amp.

Hi Roger, I've played a Mosvalve rig since the early 90's when Ronnie Neighbors first introduced to the steel community at the St. Louis convention.

I've worked it pretty hard with a variety of music styles using steel, guitar and slide without any problems whatsover. I have always used Peavey 1501, 2 and 1203 4 ohm speakers without a whimper from the MosValve 500. The suggestion regarding ventilation is a good one, even though the unit has an internal cooling fan. Enjoy!

Thanks guys for your help and it's great to know that there is still some of these being used. After i posted this i did some research and what little info i found was helpfull too. The one i have says Mosvalve 500 and to the right of that it says Tube Works 942, so from what i've read, there must an older version and a newer vrsion of the same amp. Mine is made in the US and the SN starts out 02- and i asked Genz Benz if they could tell the year by the SN and they hade no info on it, but they said at 4ohm it was 250w per chanel (A&B)- stereo, and it would be fine to use 4ohm.
The manual i found says 500W at 4ohm, 250W per chanel, both chanels used. So hopefully this might shed some light for any body using these, and again thanks for your help.

That is the old, original, model. The later model, made by Genz-Benz had a four digit model number (don't remember what it was). Basically the same amp, just a black front panel and the controls relocated on the front panel.
