Seems like an overpriced, kind of hacked on, pre-war Ric. Am I missing something?

Nope. Are you surprised that a vintage guitar shop prices their inventory on the highest end of the market? I only posted it 'cause somebody here may find it an attractive buy despite its flaws. Is Rickenbacher going to make any more 1937 bakelites in any condition?

If there's anything to quibble about in that web page, it's this...

There have been plenty for sale both above ground and underground if one has the $$. The late 40's early 50's string through bakelites sound really great as well at a working man's aforability. After recharging the magnets and filing the poles so the pickup can be adjusted to it's uppermost ability, one would be hard pressed to hear a difference using a blind test as far as I'm concerned.

However you are correct, for a recording artist who just needs the 'sound' and not a perfectly clean looking instrument, it would be sufficient. Most guitars I have purchased all need tune ups of one kind or another. Thanks to technicians like Rick Aiello and Bill Creller, I have learned what would have not been available elsewhere than on the SGF.
