By request of SM, here's one of my absolute favorite steel players, King Benny Nawahi, playing ukulele, then hot steel guitar. He has, I think, my favorite tone of all. Madison #5067B--My Girl From the South Sea Isles

All right Mike! Thanks for answering my request. (Now I've got to get the Yazoo CD.) Not only was that great playing, I really liked the singer too-- was that him?

neat story; my uke player Davis Sweet studied guitar with Benny's guitar player and he has this huge scratch on his archtop where Benny i guess tipped the guitar over as he bumped into it when naturally he couldnt see it since he was blind at that point. that's not a scratch you repair! |

Hehe... I don't think any of my bandmates would have kept a scratch I made on their instruments for sentimental reasons... But then I can't play like that, either...
Oh BTW, Mike, great tune, and great playing!

I really like King Bennie's style. I think he also recorded this song at least twice by the name of Queen of the South Sea Isles - once as King Nawahi's Hawaiians and once as King's Hawaiians. |
